Hi, I'm Lucas!
I named my farm “Atavus” because it’s the Latin word for Ancestor.
I wanted to honor the deep wisdom of our predecessors. In order to be healthy: eat good food and be in harmony with nature.
If thousands of generations before us lived happy, healthy lives then why can’t we?
My Story
In 2020 I was working in Seattle as a musician. When that industry disappeared overnight I turned to gardening to keep busy.
I had a deep connection to nature that first year: Building my own planter box, growing food, and watching baby rabbits nest in my garden.
Not long afterwards I learned that my Aunt and Uncle were trying to rent a small property in rural Naches and I decided to make an honest attempt at farming.
The Farm Today
I now proudly supply produce to many local restaurants, caterers, homes, and farmers markets. I chose microgreens as my main focus for two reasons: Firstly, their high nutritional value. And secondly, growing inside allows for close observation and quick, year round production.
The lessons I’ve learned from growing microgreens have greatly impacted how I grow other plants as well. My goal is to add more healing foods to my operation over time.
I’ve also begun teaching others to grow. I spent many years teaching music so it only made sense to use my skills as an educator to help people become more self-sufficient with food as well.
